Vital Signs IT Research Project Position

Salary: 46-50,000/£30-32,500 per annum
Length of Contract: 16 months, ending 30/6/08

The Vital Signs Project:

The Vital Signs Project is based on the application of technology as an educational tool where students use handheld computers and peripherals to make, record, and share observations of their local aquatic environments.  The Vital Signs programme has been running in schools in the Blackwater, Foyle and Melvin catchments but now wishes to extend to more catchments and work with more schools, both primary and secondary.  The programme aims also to develop and test software to monitor coastal environments.  The Vital Signs project is an association with The Irish Central Border Area Network (ICBAN), The Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission (the Loughs Agency), Northern Regional Fisheries Board, Monaghan County Council, and the Coastal & Marine Resources Centre, University College Cork.

The IT Position:

The Information Technology Research Assistant will be a graduate in a relevant IT discipline with min. 2 years experience including web development, RDBMS (Access or PostGres), web administration with UNIX/Linux OS, and compiling software.  Applicants must have excellent networking, inter-personal, oral/written communication, administration and organizational skills; hold current driving licence and have use of a car for business purposes; ability to travel for short periods; be highly motivated, able to work to tight deadlines and be comfortable dealing with people at all levels of public and voluntary sectors.
