Work on Cork Flood Defence Scheme to commence in 2016
The Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Simon Harris TD has announced that plans for the Cork City Flood Defence scheme will go on public display in February 2015, and that works are expected to commence in 2016.
The Cork City Flood Defence scheme will be a significant employment opportunity for Civil & Environmental Engineering graduates in the region. The Minister made the announcement at a meeting with representatives of residents and businesses affected by the extensive flooding which has hit Cork city and the suburbs of Douglas and Blackpool in recent years. The major floods of November 2009 caused extensive damage to the city centre and left hundreds of residents temporarily homeless.
