College of Medicine & Health hosts the 2025 European Hospital and Healthcare Federation Exchange group

Working together to deliver improvements in quality of patient care across our region.
A regular fixture in our calendar, this visit provides a valuable opportunity to bring UCC and HSE SW colleagues together to explore how collaboration between academia and the healthcare service directly supports improvements in quality of patient care across our region.
This year’s programme included:
- A tour of ASSERT’s facilities with ASSERT Clinical Industry Liaison Officer, Dr Michael Cronin, and ASSERT Centre Manager Michael O’Keeffe
- Engaging conversation and session on simulation-based training with Professor Mark Corrigan, Consultant Breast Surgeon, CUH, Director of core surgical training in Cork
- A research-focused discussion featuring Professor Denis O’Mahony, HSE SW Director of Research, Dr Claire O’Regan (Project Manager OECI accreditation, Cancer@UCC), and Mary Claire O’Regan, Interim Director of Operations & Clinical Trials- Clinical Research Facility-Cork
- A final session on Implementation science with Dr Jill Poots (EQUIPS Network Manager) and Dr Sheena McHugh, Senior Lecturer, UCC School of Public Health.
Each session linked closely to this year’s HOPE themes: collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and quality in patient care.
We’re grateful to our UCC and HSE colleagues who gave their time to meet with the group and share their work. As always, the HOPE participants were engaged, insightful, and enthusiastic — a pleasure to host.
