International Olympiad in Informatics

Team Ireland travelled to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), held from 9–16 August 2026.

The team included Ben Maguire, Mykyta Telychko, Séamas Riordan, and Afric Deasy who were accompanied by Dr Andrea Visentin, Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology, and Derbhile Timon, former School Manager, who supported the team throughout the competition.

The IOI is one of the world’s most prestigious computer science competitions for secondary school students, bringing together some of the most talented young programmers from around the world to solve challenging algorithmic problems under time pressure.

The participation of Team Ireland reflects the strength of the training and preparation programme supporting students in informatics and competitive programming. 

The Irish teams’ participation in the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) and IOI would not have been possible without the support of team leaders Dr Laura Maye, Isabel Ronan, Dr Andrea Visentin and Derbhile Timon.

Sincere thanks also go to Dr Sabin Tabirca, Andrew Nash and all those involved in supporting the All Ireland Programming Olympiad, specialised training, and Ireland’s competitive programming activities, including the UCC ACM Student Chapter for their role in hosting the IrlCPC.
