NOVAFOODIES Project Marks Two Years of Aquaculture Innovation

The Environmental Research Institute at University College Cork (UCC) recently hosted the second annual meeting of the NOVAFOODIES project consortium.
Funded by the Horizon Europe Farm-to-Fork programme, NOVAFOODIES aims to harness the potential of underutilised aquatic species and develop high-value functional foods to support global food security and sustainability.
Held on 13-14 May, the meeting brought together participants from across Europe, Ireland, and China to celebrate two years of collaboration. Highlights included a public co-creation workshop on aquaculture-based food and feed innovation, and inspiring presentations from sister projects INNOAQUA and Algae4IBD, exploring advances in sustainable multitrophic aquaculture and novel product development.
The event was organised by Dr. Linda O’Higgins, Principal Investigator in Marine Microbiology and Biotechnology, with support from her colleagues at UCC.
