Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering

The prestigious Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering has been awarded this year to Éabha Keely, a Civil and Environmental Engineering student.
Éabha's remarkable achievements during her placement with Arup in structural engineering have earned her this award. Her notable projects include:
- Crawford Art Gallery Restoration: Éabha designed foundations for a flood defence system for the Half Moon Street façade.
- Irish Distillers Expansion Project: She produced rebar configurations and re-designed foundations to address adverse geotechnical conditions.
Three other students were recognised as joint runners-up:
- Eoghan P. Brennan, Electric and Electronic Engineering
- Mary O’ Sullivan, Process & Chemical Engineering
- Jack K. O’Sullivan, Energy Engineering
The late Joe Gantly, a Civil Engineering graduate of Trinity College Dublin, made significant contributions to industry and education in the Cork area. His roles included Director of European Operations at Apple Computers, President of Cork Chamber, Chairman of the Cork Airport Authority, and Governor of UCC.
To commemorate his contributions to Cork’s business community and UCC, Cork Chamber has generously donated €1,500 per annum to establish the Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering. This prize is awarded annually to the best student of the Work Placement module in the ME (Hons) Programmes at UCC.
