Qualcomm Senior Vice President visits UCC

Qualcomm Technologies' Global Senior Vice President of Engineering Ajay Bawale and Paul Kelleher, VP Engineering, Qualcomm Technologies Ireland, visited UCC to acknowledge the links between the technology giant and the university.

Qualcomm Technologies (QT) has announced an investment of €140 million in its research and development facility in Cork which will create over 150 highly skilled roles over the next four years. 

The expansion will boost knowledge and skills at QT Technologies Ireland in Cork, allowing for innovative and exciting new work to be undertaken.

UCC has a long-standing and collaborative relationship with Qualcomm Technologies Ireland. In addition to philanthropic support, the company has been generous with their time, staff and expertise. QT employs a large number of UCC graduates and welcomes UCC students as interns with the company.

Qualcomm Technologies is an American telecommunications company which produces semiconductors, software and wireless technology. Founded in 1985 by electronic engineer Irwin Jacobs, Qualcomm established innovative technology which used CDMA (code division multiple access) to harness wireless transmissions. This technology formed the basis for mobile phones and later, mobile broadband. Qualcomm has been instrumental in the development of 3G, 4G and 5G technology. In 2013, Qualcomm established a European base in Cork.
