2022 Association for Constraint Programming Distinguished Service Award

Congratulations to Helmut Simonis, Insight Centre for Data and Analytics on receiving the 2022 Association for Constraint Programming Distinguished Service Award which was presented to him at the 28th International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming in Haifa, Israel in August.
The purpose of this award is to celebrate those CP community members who have made exceptional contributions to the CP community. Areas of service could include, but are not limited to: association service, service as an editor, conference organisation, representation of CP in other organisations, etc., resulting in positive effects on the field of CP.
Helmut was presented with his award for his tireless work to expand the reach of constraint programming and to constantly inject his positive energy and unbiased curiosity in the CP research community. From his work as a past president of the ACP and past programme chair of CP, to his continued contributions in education, outreach and industry application of CP, Helmut’s contributions to constraint programming are numerous and impactful.
July 2022 marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the European AI Association (EurAI), formerly the European Coordinating Committee for AI (ECCAI). A special celebration was held at the EurAI Fellows Lunch at IJCAI-ECAI 2022 - the combined International Joint Conference on AI and the European Conference on AI - which was held in Vienna. Professor Barry O’Sullivan contributed to the celebration as the immediate past president of the association, along with several other previous presidents.
