Dr Emanuel Popovici awarded Institution of Civil Engineers' Reed and Mallik Medal
Congratulations to Dr Emanuel Popovici, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, who is among a group of Irish researchers to win the prestigious Reed and Mallik Medal in Urban Design and Planning in the ICE Publishing Awards 2021.
Each year, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) recognise the works published in ICE Publishing journals over the previous year, which have been nominated by each editorial advisory panel or board. Winning papers, from industry and academia, of exceptional quality and benefit to the civil engineering, construction and materials science community, are acknowledged through the ICE Publishing Awards.
The research paper entitled, “Estimating environmental exposure of cyclists in Cork using limited sensing capabilities”, was published in the ICE journal of Urban Design and Planning and authored by Myles Galvin, Benjamin Lenihan and Dr Emanuel Popovici from UCC; Professor Vikram Pakrashi from UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering; and Dr Ronan Doorley and Professor Bidisha Ghosh from TCD School of Engineering.
The research started from an inter-disciplinary final year project at UCC co-supervised by Dr Emanuel Popovici and Professor Vikram Pakrashi in 2013-2014. During the same time, some other notable work supervised by the two academics also published by the Institute of Civil Engineers included the first modelling testing of the historic Daly's Bridge (also known as the Shaky Bridge), a landmark in Cork City.
The winning paper can found here
Congratulations to all involved.
