Today is International Men's Day!
Celebrating Men and Boys
Today, November 19th, we mark International Men’s Day, a global celebration recognising the positive contributions men make to their families, their communities and to the world.
The 2025 theme, “Celebrating Men and Boys,” highlights the importance of uplifting and acknowledging the role they play in shaping a better society.
This year, in honour of their significant contributions to their School and the wider College of Medicine and Health, the CoMH EDI Steering Group is delighted to present International Men’s Day Appreciation Awards to Prof. Mark McEntee (School of Medicine) and Dr. Ken Devine (School of Pharmacy). Their commitment, leadership, and positive impact exemplify the spirit of this day.

Through his role as Chief Technical Officer in the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Ken Devine is widely recognised for his sustained and positive contribution to the School’s teaching and research.
Ken’s collegiality, positive attitude, and approachable manner, combined with his technical expertise, have supported countless students in laboratory classes and enabled researchers to achieve key experimental goals.
His empathetic nature has guided research students and staff through challenging times, offering a listening ear and sage advice. In addition to his professional excellence, Ken is a talented athlete and serves as an inspiring role model for men’s health and wellbeing.

Professor Mark McEntee, a world leading radiation scientist, head of discipline of medical imaging, and Vice Head for Learning and Teaching in the College of Medicine and Health, consistently demonstrates his deeply held values of equity and inclusion in all activities.
His leadership as co-chair of the School of Medicine Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team during its successful Bronze application has committed the School to a four year equality action plan, progressing gender equality and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion more broadly within the School.
In his role as Vice Head for Learning and Teaching in CoMH, Mark has championed the area of inclusive student-centred learning. This mix of research excellence, institutional leadership, and sustained commitment to equity makes Mark a positive male role model.
Both awardees demonstrate strong leadership and inspire others through their dedication and integrity, making them truly deserving of this award.
