Attaining a top 50 place in the QS subject Rankings!

UCC’s School of Nursing and Midwifery has attained a top 50 place in the QS subject Rankings - a collective well done to the staff and students of the UCC’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, clinical partners and national and international collaborators linked with the School. This is truly a collective effort.

This year Nursing attained the highest subject ranking across 54 specific subjects ranked by QS within UCC - a fact that the school is extremely proud of.

In addition a QS score of 33, places UCC’s School of Nursing and Midwifery as the top ranked School in Ireland. World university rankings show nursing is one of Ireland’s strongest subjects with four Universities making it to the top 100 in the QS rankings most years.

UCC in its strategic plan has aimed to be placed higher in the University QS rankings. UCC continues to progress up the rankings in the prestigious QS World University Ranking with subjects ranked in the top 100. The QS World University Rankings by Subject are based upon academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. Such metrics are important factors in terms of international students’ programme choices and in terms of international collaborative efforts. The data provides students, policymakers, faculty, and employers with insight into the School’s performance. The prestigious ranking enables the school to increase its research funding endeavours, attract world class research talent and ensure that talent from within is visible nationally and internally. The ranking is reflective of a school which contains a high functioning research, teaching and learning ecosystem.

Professor Josephine Hegarty noted:

I am delighted that our School has again achieved a top 50 place in the world in the latest QS World University rankings by Subject, continuing to succeed in our ambitions to be firmly located among the top Schools of Nursing and Midwifery globally known for our culture of collaboration, discovery and excellence. I am so pleased to be working with nursing and midwifery colleagues who have continued to work so hard, especially during the challenging years of Covid-19. I am extremely proud of the collective efforts of our students and staff and the positive difference we as a collective are making to the lives of those in receipt of nursing and midwifery care and health services. "

Head of the College of Medicine and Health Professor Helen Whelton congratulated all the staff and students.

“This is a tremendous global achievement and testament to the terrific and consistently great work carried out by the School of Nursing and Midwifery staff and students. Not only is UCC’s School of Nursing and Midwifery the top ranked School in Ireland but these world university rankings show nursing continues to be one of Ireland’s strongest subjects. This is indeed a great and a very proud day for all our colleagues at School of Nursing and Midwifery."

We believe the School provides an exceptional environment to foster cutting-edge research and prepare the nurses and midwives of tomorrow with the knowledge, skills and abilities to shape and advance practice whilst continuing to improve patient outcomes.
