Creativity, Engagement and Inclusion Take Centre Stage at the CoMH Learning and Teaching Showcase
Staff, students and invited speakers came together to share ideas, celebrate achievements and inspire future collaboration in learning and teaching.
Colleagues from across CoMH gathered in the Pharmacy Building on Friday 5th June for the 2026 College of Medicine and Health Learning and Teaching Showcase, a vibrant and engaging event centred on this year's theme, Creativity, Engagement and Inclusion in Learning & Teaching. Running from 9am to 3pm, the showcase provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas, explore innovative teaching approaches and highlight practices that support engaging and inclusive learning.

The event opened with a welcome address from Professor Helen Whelton, followed by remarks from UCC's Deputy President and Registrar, Professor Stephen Byrne. Attendees also heard from the College's Vice Head of Learning and Teaching, Professor Mark McEntee, who reflected on the importance of fostering inclusive learning environments, encouraging creativity in educational practice and supporting meaningful engagement for both staff and students.

The showcase attracted an excellent attendance from CoMH staff and the wider University, creating an energetic and collegial atmosphere. One of the highlights was the display of over 40 posters showcasing innovative projects, research and initiatives from across our schools and disciplines. The poster exhibition sparked lively discussion, meaningful interaction and valuable networking opportunities, helping to set the scene for future collaborations and partnerships.

Talks from staff across the College's schools, together with contributions from guest speakers and students, demonstrated the breadth and quality of learning and teaching activity taking place across the College. Speakers shared innovative approaches, practical insights and examples of best practice, inspiring attendees and stimulating thought-provoking conversations throughout the day.
The showcase provided a welcoming space for colleagues who are passionate about enhancing teaching and learning to come together, share experiences and learn from one another. The enthusiasm and engagement evident throughout the day reflected the strong commitment within the College to creating inclusive, student-centred learning experiences and to continuously improving educational practice.
A new addition to this year's programme, the Lego® Serious Play® Workshop, was facilitated by Sinead Moynihan, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. The workshop was exceptionally well received, encouraging participants to explore creativity in teaching and learning through a fun, engaging and interactive experience.
A sincere thank you is extended to everyone who contributed to the success of the showcase, including poster authors, speakers, students, attendees and, in particular, the Organising Committee whose hard work and dedication made the event possible.
The College of Medicine and Health Learning and Teaching Showcase once again demonstrated the value of bringing colleagues together to celebrate success, share ideas and inspire new possibilities. We look forward to building on the connections and conversations established this year and to welcoming colleagues back for another inspiring showcase in 2027.
