Professor Gerry Lee Delivers Inaugural Professorial Lecture at UCC

‘Improving patient and health system outcomes through nursing research and practice’
On Thursday 29th May, Professor Gerry Lee, Chair of Nursing and Health Services Research at University College Cork, delivered her Inaugural Professorial Lecture entitled ‘Improving patient and health system outcomes through nursing research and practice’.
Held as part of the College of Medicine and Health’s 2024/25 Inaugural Professorial Lecture (IPL) Series, we welcomed a full house and an engaged audience for a compelling and impactful presentation.
Professor Lee, based in UCC’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, outlined how her research has influenced care pathways and patient outcomes in emergency care and cardiovascular disease, from Australia to South Africa and the UK. Her lecture showcased the significant impact of nursing research on health systems globally.
The event was opened by Professor Helen Whelton, Head of the College of Medicine and Health and Chief Academic Officer to the HSE South West region, who delivered a warm and personal introduction. Professor Patricia Leahy-Warren, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, also spoke, highlighting Professor Lee’s academic journey, research excellence, and professional contributions to the field.
The IPL Series celebrates the achievements of newly appointed professors at UCC, offering an important platform to share their work with the university and wider community.
