MA in Film and Screen Media students present ‘Cinespectres’
15 May 2023On Thursday 11th May the MA in Film and Screen Media students presented ‘Cinespectres’, a showcase of films made under the mentorship of our 2023 Arts Council/UCC Film Artist in Residence, Maximilian Le Cain. This very special screening took place at the Triskel Arts Centre, and was introduced by Laura Rascaroli, Professor of Film and Screen Media, and Head of the School of Film, Music & Theatre at UCC.

Jared Harris visits students of the Department of Film & Screen Media
21 Apr 2023Actor Jared Harris visits University College Cork (UCC) to meet students from the Department of Film and Screen Media and view the archives of his late father, Richard Harris, which were donated to the university last year.
Jared, who is visiting UCC and Cork with his wife Allegra, starred in number of roles in film and television including Mad Men and Chernobyl. While at UCC Jared and Allegra will meet staff in UCC Library, have a Q&A with students in the Department of Film and Screen Media and be interviewed by students at UCC’s 93.8FM radio station.

The Final Year Students of the Department of Film & Screen Media proudly present the FOSCARS 2023
03 May 2023On April 14th, 2023, I had the privilege to host a momentous event, the Film and Screen Media Oscar Awards, more commonly referred to as the FOSCARS. Here we saw all the final year films, which we were delighted to watch collectively. These films were a display of the impeccable skills that we had honed over the years, and it was an extraordinary moment to witness all our hard work pay off!

02 May 2023UCC Film and Screen Media is delighted to announce a special screening at the Triskel Arts Centre of MA films produced in collaboration with our 2023 UCC/Arts Council Film Artist in Residence, Maximilian Le Cain. As part of his residency here at UCC, Max mentored our six MA in Film and Screen Media students–Avleen Anand, Dervla Baker, Elena Binnig, Lawrence Cook, Aoibh Foynes, and Daniel Heapy–and the result is “Cinespectres”, a showcase of distinctive and personal films that capture the creativity, wit and imagination of our talented MAs!

15 Mar 2023Imelda O’Reilly is an interdisciplinary artist and an award winning Irish filmmaker. She has lived on four continents Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. Her work explores themes of Identity, memory, trauma and exile. Her feature screenplay titled We’re the Kids in America was an Official Selection for L’Atélier Cinéfondation Cannes International Film Festival in 2018.

The Lord Puttnam Scholars 2023
10 Mar 2023Six UCC students have been awarded the prestigious title of Puttnam Scholar. The Puttnam Scholarship programme offers UCC students from any discipline the opportunity to work with and learn from digital education pioneer Lord David Puttnam, Oscar-winning producer of films including Chariots of Fire, The Mission, The Killing Fields, and Midnight Express. This year’s scholars are final-year and postgraduate students in the fields of Nursing, Law, English and Film & Screen Media.
