Neurogastroenterology
Researchers:
John F. Cryan, Siobhain O’Mahony, Olivia O’Leary, Harriët Schellekens, Aonghus Lavelle, Maria R. Aburto.
• Understanding the interaction between brain and gut and how it applies to stress and im-mune-related disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, visceral pain, obesity and sepsis.
• Investigation of dysfunctional communication within the brain gut axis in the emergence of functional bowel disorders.
• Examination of GPCRs in the development of visceral hypersensitivity particularly within the lumbar-sacral spinal cord.
• The role of the gut bacteria in anti-psychotic associated obesity.
