Applications now being accepted for 'Anatomy and Neuroscience for Transition Year Students' 2.5 day course 5th to 7th May 2026
The Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience is delighted to welcome applications for the forthcoming Anatomy and Neuroscience for Transition Year students two and a half day course which will take place from Tuesday 5th May to Thursday 7th May 2026.
This two-and-a-half-day course explores the structure and function of the human body at multiple levels. Normal structure and function are presented and the effects of different factors (including disease, lifestyle habits such as alcohol use and smoking, etc) on these structures are examined and discussed.
Delivery of course includes tutorials, small group learning, and dissection based learning. Laboratory sessions will primarily focus on demonstrating gross anatomy with previously-dissected human cadavers and cadaveric parts. Hands-on dissections will include individual dissections of animal organs. There is also a surgical-skills training component, with laparoscopic surgery simulators and suturing practice
Students will also gain some research lab experience and observe neuroscience researchers at work. Students will also have the opportunity to view cellular anatomy (histology) using microscopes in the anatomy laboratory.
This course would be of particular interest to students interested in exploring human anatomy and students interested in pursuing studies of medicine/paramedicine, medical lab science, biological sciences, or other healthcare fields as their primary course of study at third level.
