Qualcomm’s Deputy Chief Technology Officer visits UCC

In April 2024, Baaziz Achour, Deputy Chief Technology Officer at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., paid an exciting visit to University College Cork.
UCC has significant interaction with Qualcomm Technologies Ireland Limited, and Baaziz took the opportunity to explore the university during his visit.
In addition to Baaziz, UCC also hosted Qualcomm Technologies Ireland Limited’s Paul Kelleher, VP Engineering, Keith O’Donoghue, Senior Director Engineering and Aileen Kelly-O’Sullivan, Senior Engineering Operations Analyst. The Qualcomm Technologies team toured the university’s labs and met many key members of the university faculty, including Emanuel Popovici, Senior Lecturer and Director of IEEE, John O’Halloran, President, and their respective teams. Baaziz was gifted a specially commissioned piece of treated wood from UCC engraved with his surname, Achour, in Ogham writing, which he greatly appreciated.
The Qualcomm Technologies team were also able to meet with Professor Seamus Davis, who was recently awarded the 2023 Oliver E Buckley Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in world science. Professor Davis treated the Qualcomm Technologies team to a tour of the Quantum Lab and introduced them to his team.
