European rowing success for UCC STEM students

We are incredibly proud of the success of our alumni and students who represented Ireland in the European Rowing Championships in Munich. UCC STEM was represented by Fintan McCarthy who graduated with a BSc Physiology; Emily Hegarty, BSc Biological Sciences; and Aifric Keogh, MSc Food Microbiology.
Fintan McCarthy and Paul O'Donovan won Gold in the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls. Fintan is from Skibbereen and graduated with a degree in Physiology from UCC. The Olympic gold medal-winning duo crossed the finish line to cheers and applause with four seconds to spare over their closest rivals, Italy.
UCC Food Microbiology graduate Aifric Keogh and her team-mates won a silver medal in the Women’s Four, while Emily Hegarty (BSc Biological Sciences) and her partner finished fourth in Women’s Pair.
Congratulations to all on these exceptional performances in the competitive field of European rowing.
