Highly Cited Researchers List 2021

Congratulations to our College of Science, Engineering and Food Science researchers who feature in a global list of the top 1% of the world’s most influential scientific researchers.
UCC is the Irish university with the greatest number of entries in Clarivate’s 2021 global list of highly cited researchers.
A total of 13 researchers from APC Microbiome Ireland, a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Centre based in UCC were included on the Highly Cited Researchers 2021 list. A number of these researchers are from the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science. The list is published by Clarivate and recognises pioneers in their field whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of research influence and impact.
UCC has the highest number for any Irish university on the global list, which features a total of 6,600 researchers from more than 60 countries, with US-based institutions continuing to dominate.
Clarivate Plc, a global leader in providing trusted information and insights to accelerate the pace of innovation, unveiled its 2021 list of Highly Cited Researchers™ recently. The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information™ at Clarivate.
The annual list identifies some 6,600 researchers from across the globe who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. The Highly Cited Researchers’ names are drawn from publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index, and the list identifies the research institutions and countries where they are based.
