Vacancy: Lectureship in Plant Science

UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Lecturer in Plant Science within the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Specific Purpose Whole-time Post

(anticipated duration of 5 years)

 

The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) comprises the academic disciplines of Environmental Science, Geology, Plant Science and Zoology & Ecology.  The School is one of the largest in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS), is highly research active and offers a wide variety of programmes across the disciplines.  It currently offers nine undergraduate programmes including BSc Plant Science and Dual BSc Environmental Science with Environmental Management (with Minzu University of China), three taught MSc programmes, four MRes programmes including MRes Animal and Plant Science, and one Postgraduate Diploma. The School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award and is proactively committed to equality and diversity in the workplace.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a doctorate in Plant Science or closely related discipline, and demonstrate a proven commitment to excellence in teaching and research as evidenced by a scholarly reputation of international standing. S/he is expected to teach short duration modules in Beijing at Minzu University of China as well as in UCC fulfilling standard teaching loads. S/he should develop research compatible with the research agenda of the School, national and EU funding strategies. Plant Science research from plant ecology to biotechnology, addressing important environmental issues such as climate resilience, sustainable food production and resource use are strengths in the School. Plant Science in BEES is central to the research themes Food Security, Climate and Resources, Biodiversity and Sustainability, and Environment and Health. S/he is expected to have a strong track record of sustained peer-reviewed publications and will have a record of fostering a culture of teaching and research excellence.

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer Below the Bar Salary Scale: €34,067 - €60,167 (Scale B) / €35,940 - €57,252 (Scale A)
Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
