Launch of €3 million Fexco-UCC research collaboration

FINTECHNEXT, a financial technology research collaboration project between UCC, Fexco and Science Foundation Ireland, was launched today by Paschal Donohue, Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure and Reform at Fexco Head Office in Killorglin, Co. Kerry.

The objective of this Fexco/UCC partnership is to undertake collaborative research focussed on technological innovation in financial services that will have significant impact on the economy and society through:

  1. Advancing scientific knowledge through creation and discovery, and
  2. Facilitating the development of highly innovative new products and services for commercialisation.

Over four years from 2019 to 2022, FINTECHNEXT will undertake scientifically excellent research primarily in information systems, finance and computer science.

This collaboration, led by Professor Philip O’Reilly of Cork University Business School, aims to stimulate the joint development of innovative solutions that will put Ireland on the world map as a fintech innovation hub. The research team will be co-located between Fexco Headquarters in Co. Kerry and UCC. 

The €3 million investment in the project will come from Science Foundation Ireland and Fexco in equal parts.
