UCC are biggest winners at Board of Irish College Societies Awards 2019

UCC Societies were the biggest winners at this year’s Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) Awards taking home a whopping four awards - more than any other college or institute in Ireland.

The 23rd Annual Board of Irish College Societies Awards ceremony was held on Thursday 11th April in the Sheraton Hotel Athlone. Over 400 students and staff were in attendance from colleges and institutes all around Ireland. Following a detailed application process including an application form, a portfolio and an interview; UCC excelled in following four categories: :

  • Best Promotional Video - UCC Surgeon Noonan Society
  • Best New Society (Large College) - Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (WiStem), UCC
  • Best Society Individual (Large College) - David Synnott, UCC Surgeon Noonan Society
  • Best Society in a Charity of Civic Field (Large College)- Surgeon Noonan, UCC

UCC Societies president James Boyle said of UCC's avhievements "we are honoured to bring four awards home to UCC and delighted to see the endless volunteer hours, the commitment from our students and their determination throughout the year recognized at a national level. It’s been a great year for us at UCC Societies and I look forward to seeing our societies grow stronger again next year".

Michelle Whyte, BICS Chairperson and Officer of Student Societies in UCC, commented that "the standard of entries was absolutely breathtaking; a true reflection of the fun, creativity and dedication that these student volunteers bring to their campus community".
