Shauna Caffrey

Biography

Shauna Louise Caffrey was born in Dublin in 1994. She completed her undergraduate degree in Music at Trinity College, Dublin, and was awarded the Mahaffy Memorial Prize in 2017 for her original research into the origins and appearance of witchcraft in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Shortly afterwards, she enrolled in the MA Music and Cultural History programme in UCC, and graduated with First Class Honours.

After being awarded an Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship, Shauna commenced her PhD studies at UCC in October 2018, supervised by Dr. Tríona Ní Shíocháin and Dr. Melanie Marshall. Her research combines her lifelong love of folkore and mythology with her interest in early music and gender studies, and focuses on the relationship between witchcraft, magic and music on the seventeenth-century stage. Her wide range of research interests also includes film music, experimental music and intersections of opera and Gothic literature and film. Shauna is also a founding member of experimental music group Analog On, with whom she has performed throughout Ireland, the UK, and the USA.
