CoMH Learning and Teaching Showcase 2025

A day to acknowledge and celebrate the excellence in teaching across the College of Medicine and Health.
The 2025 College of Medicine and Health Learning and Teaching Showcase took place on Friday, 6th June, in the Pharmacy Building at UCC, bringing together staff from across the College in a vibrant celebration of innovation and excellence in teaching.
Organised by Professor Mark McEntee, Vice Head of Learning and Teaching at CoMH, and the Showcase Committee, this annual event recognises outstanding contributions to teaching within the College.
This year’s Showcase opened with a lively poster viewing and networking session, where attendees engaged enthusiastically with research and practice shared by colleagues. The room was filled with energy and collegiality, setting the tone for a day of shared learning and inspiration.
Professor Stephen Byrne, Deputy President and Registrar at UCC, formally opened the event and praised the passion and commitment of educators within the College.
“We are so lucky to have passionate teachers,” Prof Byrne said. “That passion can be seen in the posters, in the attendance, in the noise in the room today. You are here because you care about teaching. Your students can see it, and by sharing your work today, your colleagues can see it too.”
The talks began with a warm welcome from Prof McEntee and an engaging keynote address by Dr Sarah Thelen on "Academics, AI, and Assessment: Who’s in Charge?" A thought-provoking session that explored the evolving role of AI in education and assessment.
Throughout the day, colleagues shared their innovative approaches and impactful projects, including:
-
Promoting Safe Prescribing through Interprofessional Education Workshops
-
Fostering Interprofessional Collaboration during Clinical Placements
-
Supporting Supervisors through Interprofessional Workshops
-
Prioritising Health Literacy for Health and Social Care Professions
-
Community Engaged Learning in Healthcare
-
Dental Trauma Learning and Teaching: Pedagogical Approaches and Evaluation
Prof McEntee acknowledged the high calibre of contributions and emphasised the importance of continued collaboration in advancing teaching practice across the College: “Today’s presentations reflect the strength, creativity, and commitment of our teachers. This Showcase is about learning from one another and continuing to raise the bar in how we deliver outstanding teaching at UCC.”
Sincere thanks go to all contributors and attendees for making this event such a success. The Showcase fostered meaningful connections and cross-disciplinary dialogue, reinforcing a shared commitment to excellence in education.
The Book of Abstracts and a recording of the Showcase will be available soon on CORA and SharePoint.
Thank you to all our fantastic presenters and attendees. It was a powerful reminder of the passion, innovation, and excellence that defines teaching at CoMH.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year to our 2026 Learning & Teaching Showcase!
