Watch Now: UCC School of Law Webinar on Prescriptive Easements

12 Mar 2021

On Wednesday 24 February 2021, the UCC School of Law held a hugely successful webinar entitled "Prescriptive Easements: Another Cliff Edge?"

Organised by Professor John Mee and the team at the School of Law, the timely webinar considered the full range of issues relating to the law on the prescriptive acquisition of easements and profits (ahead of the transition period established under the LCLRA 2009, as extended by the Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2011, ending on 30 November 2021) including:

  • The new legislative regime
  • Is it necessary to take action before 1 December 2021?
  • Problems with the Section 49A procedure
  • The future of statutory declarations as to long use
  • Extinguishment of easements and profits through non-use C
  • an the law be amended before the deadline?

The School was delighted to welcome the Hon. Ms. Justice Marie Baker as Chair of the event, which was introduced by Professor Mark Poustie, Dean of the UCC School of Law. We were joined by speakers  Deirdre Fox, Solicitor, member (and former Chair) of Law Society Conveyancing Committee, Professor Mee (who has written extensively in this area), and Peter Bland SC, author of 'Easements' (3rd edition, 2015).

The event was hugely popular and sold out well in advance, with nearly 400 attendees tuning in live on the day.
