UCC Disaster Research Cluster experts participate in international event in Geneva
Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier and Dr Dug Cubie were invited to present at an expert meeting on the International Law Commission’s Draft Articles on the Protection of Persons in the event of Disasters, held in Geneva on 31st May 2023.
The event was organised by the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and co-hosted by Roma Tre University and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights.
The ILC Draft Articles were completed in 2016 and provide an international framework for the offer and acceptance of humanitarian assistance and risk reduction measures in disasters. The UN General Assembly Sixth Committee will be debating whether to progress the Draft Articles to an international diplomatic conference for the creation of a new international treaty on the subject later this year.
