Professor Femi Amao Appointed Professor of Company Law & Sustainability

UCC School of Law is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Femi Amao as Professor of Company Law & Sustainability, a key post in the Sustainability Futures appointments. 

Prof Amao will work closely with other members of Sustainability Futures across UCC including the Cork University Business School’s newly appointed AIB Professor of Sustainable Business, Valeria Andreoni. He will spearhead research, education and engagement on business and human rights and Company Law and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) within the School and will further his world leading research on African Union Law.  

Prof Amao completed his undergraduate studies at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, his LLM at Warwick University in the UK and his PhD at UCC in 2008.  He lectured at UCC in 2008-9, Brunel University from 2009-2015 and thereafter at Sussex from 2015 initially as a Senior Lecturer and from 2019 as a Reader.  He is an expert in Company Law, Business and Human Rights, ESG and African Union Law.

Speaking about his new appointment, Prof Amao said:

“I am excited to be back at UCC for my next challenge as a Professor of Company Law & Sustainability. I am grateful to UCC, the School of Law and colleagues for the opportunity to contribute to the innovative and ambitious UCC Futures programme. I am looking forward to collaborating with colleagues across the university in examining the nexus between company law, sustainability and business and human rights, especially in the context of the Global South.’”
