BBC documentary on St Columbanus
Dr Damian Bracken, School of History, to take part in a BBC documentary on the life and writings of the Irish saint Columbanus.
Dr Damian Bracken, School of History, was in Italy to take part in a BBC documentary on the life and writings of the Irish saint Columbanus. It will be released next year to mark the 1400th anniversary of Columbanus's death in 615. Columbanus's mission had a major impact on the history of the regions where he worked, and his writings are the earliest by a known Irish writer to survive. The documentary is narrated by former President Mary Macaleese, shown here recording interviews with Damian in the basilica of the Abbazia di San Colombano, in the town of Bobbio, northern Italy, where the saint is buried.
