The Irish Klezmer Suite - a new, genre-bending composition by Ruti Lachs

The Irish Klezmer Suite is a new composition by Ruti Lachs. It comprises seven short pieces of klezmer (traditional Jewish wedding) music infused and mashed-up with Irish trad, jazz, dub reggae and classical music flavours, Yiddish lyrics and ai-ai-ai in the mix.
The composition was supported by an Arts Council Agility Award.

Ruti Lachs – composer, piano accordion, piano, trombone, voice
Edel Sullivan - violin, vocals
Fabienne St Pierre - flutes, vocals
Patrick Barrett - double bass
Ruti Lachs is a multi-instrumentalist performer, songwriter/composer and community musician. She plays with Fresh Air Collective and as a solo musical comedian, teaches piano at Cork City Music College, and has produced two documentary videos about the Cork Jewish Community which can be seen on YouTube
Edel Sullivan is a lecturer at MTU Cork School of Music. She plays fiddle in a range of styles from trad to classical and currently performs with the Fresh Air Collective. Also an avid tune composer and arranger, her solo album, "In the Time Of" was described as "Spellbinding" by the Irish Times
Fabienne St-Pierre, originally from Quebec, Canada, discovered the concert flute at the age of ten. She plays music from around the world in a number of ensembles including CAFE, Cork Adult Flute Ensemble
Pat Barrett, from Millstreet, Co. Cork, is a tutor at Cork Academy of Music, an arranger, recording artist, and in-demand bass player, playing with many groups around the Cork jazz scene.
