Classical guitarist Jerry Creedon will be joined by flautist Eilís O’Sullivan and cellist Hugh McCarthy in a fascinating mix of the classical and the modern, all involving the guitar, in a programme ranging from the cool jazz of Thelonius Monk to the Tango sensations of Astor Piazzolla.

Flautist Eilís O'Sullivan is a graduate of MTU Cork School of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. As a scholarship student she graduated with B.A. (Hons) and MMus (Distinction). Eilís was awarded the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, London and first prize in the Governor's Recital Prize Competition at the Scottish Conservatoire. She performs widely as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician. Recitals include performances at St. Martin in the Fields, London, Sir Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham, NCH Dublin and for the Prince of Wales at Hollyrood Palace, Edinburgh. Guest concerto engagements include performances in Seattle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and as a broadcast with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Dublin. Recent performances include duo recitals with pianists Michael McHale (Crawford Art Gallery; Maynooth University) and Ciara Moroney (MTU) and a series of workshops for West Cork Music’s ‘TuningUp’ outreach scheme with Hifilutin Flute Quartet. As an orchestral musician Eilís has freelanced with the RSNO, SCO, BBC Wales, NSOI and RTÉCO. Currently Eilís lectures at MTU Cork School of Music.

The lrish guitarist Jerry Creedon was born in Cork and has studied guitar from a young age. After graduating from University College, Cork, he studied with the famed German guitarist Siegfried Behrend in Germany; a Spanish Government Scholarship enabled him to study at the Andres Segovia Summer School in Santiago de Compostela; the Irish Arts Council grant-aided him to attend master classes given by world-famous virtuoso John Williams in Cordoba. A Lecturer of Classical Guitar and founder of the Classical Guitar Studies Programme (since 1998) at the MTU Cork School of Music, Jerry has attracted some of the world’s most famous guitarists to perform and teach at the MTU Cork School of Music including John Williams, The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Xue Fei Yang, Roland Dyens, Fabio Zanon, Craig Ogden, David Leisner, Christoph Jaggin, Jacob Lindberg and William Carter.

Jerry is an experienced musician and has performed in Ireland, Germany and Spain, both as a soloist and a chamber musician. He has appeared with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles and has his own Jazz Ensemble with which he performs at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. He has performed at the National Concert Hall, universities, and numerous festivals. Jerry has recorded CDs of music by Sanz, Pujol and Villa-Lobos and founded the highly acclaimed Irish Guitar Quartet. He recently performed on the film score to Paul Mercier’s “Pursuit.”

Hugh McCarthy studied cello performance with Gerry Kelly, Gerta Marwood and Christopher Marwood of the Vanbrugh Quartet. He has been a member of many chamber groups and orchestras, touring the east coast of the United States and many European countries. Hugh continues to collaborate with artists and companies as both cellist and music technologist around Ireland. He has worked in broad ranging areas from solo cello performance, to backing cellist, to orchestral musician, from technical support and sound engineer/designer to electronic performance artist.

Hugh holds an MA in Cello Performance and BMus from MTU Cork School of Music and an MSc in Music Technology from University of Limerick. He is a senior lecturer supervising research students and lecturing in Music & Technology at MTU CSM, having designed and coordinated the Music & Technology taught master’s programme. As part of the programmes at CSM he has overseen a wide variety of different projects.

Hugh is currently working on the Inclusive Music Ensemble at CSM, which seeks to provide pathways for those with disabilities to accredited, inclusive music ensembles in Higher Education and is investigating music technology and music composition for these groups.
