FUAIM Concert - Mary O’Donnell and Hannah Collins, 23rd April, 1.10pm

FUAIM is delighted to welcome back Mary O'Donnell and Hannah Collins who are recent graduates from our B. Mus programme. Mary and Hannah will be presenting a concert of traditional music for fiddle and piano.

Mary O’Donnell is a fiddle player from Portarlington, Co. Laois. She is a recent graduate of the Department of Music, UCC, having completed her BA in 2019 and BMus in 2020 on a full scholarship for Creative and Performing Arts from the Quercus Talented Students’ Programme. She was also the recipient of the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Scholarship, the Dónal ‘Doc’ Gleeson Award, and the Seán Ó Riada Memorial Award. 

Mary has been heavily influenced by the music from her own region, namely that of Seán Ryan, Robert Gleeson and the Bridge Céilí Band. She has performed around Ireland and abroad, including during Prince Charles’ visit to UCC in 2018, as well as at the Embassy of Ireland in Vietnam for St. Patrick’s Day 2019. Mary is currently undertaking an MA in Arts Management and Creative Producing in the Department of Theatre, UCC.

Hannah Collins is a traditional piano player from Skibbereen in West Cork. She is a recent graduate of UCC Music Department, where she was awarded the Mary V. Hart Memorial Prize in recognition of achieving the top result in the BMus graduating class of 2020. She attended UCC on a full Quercus Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship and was also awarded the Comhaltas Scholarship and Dónal 'Doc' Gleeson Award for excellence in performance. Hannah is an active member of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and has won seven individual piano titles at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, culminating in the All-Ireland Senior Piano title in 2019. 

Hannah has traveled extensively with music, including performances at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany and in Vietnam for St. Patrick's Day in 2019.

Currently, Hannah is undertaking an MA in Irish Traditional Music at Maynooth University.

Hannah and Mary met while studying in the Department of Music, UCC, and have performed extensively together at many events within and outside of the university.
