CIRTL Seminar: Active learning approaches, Feb 20
Active learning is about engaging students in the learning process as active participants and ‘activating’ students to take charge of their own learning. There are multiple examples of how to enhance student learning through active learning approaches and this CIRTL seminar will focus on two key topics:
- the opportunities provided through Technology Enhanced Learning to support active learning approaches with a focus on Blackboard
- the use of multiple means of action and expression for students across differing years of study to activate learning
The seminar will be given by Dr Tim O’Sullivan, Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Schools of Chemistry and Pharmacy, and Dr Malgorzata D’Aughton, Lecturer in Medieval History, School of History. Both lecturers are recipients of the 2017 President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching. Participants in the seminar will be provided with examples of teaching strategies to encourage active learning and will be encouraged to reflect on and share their own experiences.
The CIRTL seminar will be held at 12.30pm on Tuesday 20th February in the West Wing Room 5. Due to the location of the room a brown bag lunch will be provided to confirmed attendees; last minute registrations are welcome to attend the session but may not receive lunch. Please confirm your attendance by emailing Catherine O’Mahony, e: catherine.omahony@ucc.ie
Participants in the CIRTL Seminar series will be invited to gain a certificate of participation through UCC’s CPD Centre.
