CIRTL Seminar: Addressing diversity through Universal Design for Learning, Feb 8th

31 Jan 2018

A growing diversity in the student population creates new challenges for teachers every day. Universal Design for Learning UDL is a framework for learning that assumes variety among students and works to address the individual needs of each student. It works to create curricula as diverse as the students it serves, and provides equal opportunity to all students. Applying the principles of UDL to course goals, methods, materials and assessment will assist teachers address the individual needs of a diverse group.

This seminar will introduce you to the principles and guidelines of UDL and discuss the advantages and challenges of working within a UDL framework. UDL is part of the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at University College Cork and has already begun to serve teaching staff at the college well. The seminar will be presented by Dr Brian Butler from Disability Support Service who is also a teaching fellow on the team at the Centre for the Integration of Research Teaching and Learning.

The CIRTL seminar will be held at 12.30pm on Thursday, 8th February in the North Wing Council room.  A light lunch will be provided to participants in the seminar. Please confirm your attendance by emailing Catherine O’Mahony, e:catherine.omahony@ucc.ie
