Ms Shelley O’Shea conferred with Honours BSc degree at Coventry University UK
Congratulations to Ms Shelley O’Shea, Senior Executive Assistant in the Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience who was conferred with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Coventry University Summer Conferring Ceremony on the 19th July 2024.
Shelley completed a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy four-year part-time degree programme at the Cork Counselling Services Training Institute, which is accredited by the Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and validated by Coventry University.
Shelley said that she is 'delighted to have graduated with an honours degree, it has been a tough four years working on the degree at night and weekends while also balancing the demands of a full-time position in the very busy Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience'. Shelley said that she 'enjoyed the academic challenges that the degree presented and found the work very interesting', she added that the course content of the Counselling and Psychotherapy degree is 'very relevant to her work in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience'.

Joining UCC in 2006 with a background in legal administration, Shelley has gained extensive experience working in many departments in her 18 years in UCC. Beginning her UCC career in the BioSciences Institute, Shelley has worked in the School of English, the Department Sociology & Criminology and Applied Social Studies before being appointed Senior Executive Assistant in the Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience in 2021. 'It is my ideal position' she said. In addition to her role as Senior Administrator supporting the teaching and research activities of the large department Shelley leads the UCC Anatomical Donation programme and works closely with donors and their families and manages all aspects of the donor programme.
Professor Gerard O’Keeffe, Head of Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience congratulated Shelley saying, "I am delighted to extend our congratulations to Shelley on her achievement on behalf of the entire Department. This is a wonderful formal recognition of the expertise and empathy that she already brings to her role as Senior Executive Assisitant, and as the key point of contact for our donors and their families who are central to the research and teaching mission of the Department."
