UCC Embeds Universal Design with the Help of Dr Gerald Craddock

30 Mar 2023

Dr Gerald Craddock, Chief Officer from the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design, recently visited UCC to discuss the importance of embedding Universal Design. The Centre is a statutory body established by the Irish Government in 2007 and part of the National Disability Authority, which is the lead state agency on disability in Ireland. Its focus is on developing standards in professional and industrial services, creating awareness of the benefits of Universal Design within Ireland and at European and international level.

Universal Design can help UCC respond to the growing diversity of our student population. Dr Craddock's visit was particularly timely, as Universal Design is directly addressed in our new strategic plan, "Securing our Future". Universal Design will play a crucial role in Goal two, Student Success. By specifically highlighting Universal Design in our strategic plan, we will create more opportunities for all learners, reflecting the diversity of our student body. Dr. Craddock's visit provided a valuable opportunity to understand how Universal Design can be integrated into everything we do at UCC.
