PROPEL Pre-Entry Employability Module for International Students

23 Oct 2023

PROPEL Pre-Entry Employability Module for International Students. The UCC Careers Services team have listened to the voices of our international students to understand their experience of accessing career opportunities in Ireland. As a result of this feedback, we created a module called the UCC PROPEL Pre-Entry Employability Module for International Students.  The PROPEL Employability Module is designed to assist international students who are planning on coming to UCC to complete a programme of study online in their home country that will support prospective international students to deal with the challenges gaining employment, and developing their long-term employability, while studying in Ireland.

The staff of UCC Career Services are keen to build on feedback on the PROPEL Pre-Entry Employability Module for incoming international students. Hundreds of prospective and newly registered international students have engaged with the module and over 100 of these learners have completed the module and provided evaluative feedback.  This feedback will inform the next iteration of this initiative in 2024.

Pictured are Elaine Browne-Career Consultant, Aileen Waterman-Work Placement Manager and Deirdre Parker-Career Consultant who were involved in the design and creation of the PROPEL Module together with colleagues in the UCC Career Services International Student Working Group.

Also pictured are two international students who both benefitted from completing the PROPEL Module - Yuexiao Wang (China) MSc Data Science & Analytics, UCC and Ananthakrishnan Sumedan (India) MSc (Mathematical Modelling and Machine Learning), UCC.

Yuexiao Wang said “I studied the PROPEL Module before I came to Ireland. And I find it really helpful as it gives me an overall and systematic introduction about how to live, study and start a Career in Ireland. As an international student who’s considering getting a job in Ireland, I find the Employment part especially helpful, with useful information from the introduction of job market in Ireland to how to write CV and prepare for interviews. I really recommend international students to take some time to take this module and get better prepared for life and study in UCC.”
