No Longer Peripheral is a day-long event hosted by aemi in association with The Douglas Hyde Gallery that will take place in the Robert Emmet Theatre in Trinity College Dublin’s Arts Building on November 2nd 2019.

On September the 14th, UCC hosted the Ireland Wildlife Film Festival, which was the first festival of its kind in Ireland. The festival received submissions from around the world covering topics centered around wildlife, conservation, and species preservation.

The Department of Film and Screen Media is delighted to announce that a new exhibition on cinema and cinema-going in Youghal, curated by filmmaker, historian and recent graduate of the BA in Film & Screen Media, Mr. Michael Hussey, will take place in Youghal Library from September 20^th to October 11.

How do we see and in what manner do we look? Since its inception, documentary filmmakers have debated what an ethical camera attitude to the world might be.

Join us on September 14th for the Ireland Wildlife Film Festival. The festival will be the first of its kind in Ireland and hopes to raise awareness to the increasing pressures faced by wild animals around the globe.

While male-centred narrative has dominated much of twenty-first-century Irish film, female characters have continued to provide some of the most memorable, and sociopolitically significant, moments on the contemporary screen. From the subversion of old tropes surrounding gendered stereotypes and roles, to the underlining of women’s place in and treatment through Irish history, contemporary depictions of women – as peripheral characters or protagonists – present fertile ground for exploring the societal and cultural trajectories of Ireland since the new Millennium.
