Dr Tom Cavanagh RIP
The UCC University of Sanctuary Working Group is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our supporter and friend Dr Tom Cavanagh.
Tom’s dedication to ensuring access to education for all was at the core of the philanthropic Tomar Trust which he established. In particular, the Tomar Trust has generously supported UCC’s activities to offer young people from a migrant, refugee or asylum-seeking background the opportunity to undertake a university degree, thereby providing access to higher education to young adults who would otherwise not have been able to attend university. Since the establishment of the UCC-Tomar Trust Sanctuary Scholarship scheme in 2018, 26 scholars have commenced their university careers thanks to the generosity of Dr Cavanagh and the UCC-Tomar Trust programme. We offer our condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
