Congratulations to Andrea Visentin who successfully defended his PhD thesis

Successful PhD defence for Andrea Visentin
The School of Computer Science and Information Technology at University
College Cork would like to congratulate Andrea on successfully defending his
PhD research thesis.
Thesis Title: Computing Policy Parameters for Stochastic Inventory Control
Using Stochastic Dynamic Programming Approaches
Supervisor: Dr Steve Prestwich, School of Computer Science and Information
Technology, University College Cork
Internal Examiner: Professor Gregory Provan, School of Computer Science and
Information Technology, University College Cork
External Examiner: Professor Ian Miguel, University of St Andrews, UK
The examiners were impressed by Andrea's very capable defence. The thesis
proposes new hybrids of stochastic dynamic programming, branch-and-bound and
constraint programming for optimal and near-optimal inventory control under
uncertainty. Significant contributions include:
(a) The first practical method for finding optimal (R,s,S) policy
parameters.
(b) A new encoding of dynamic programming in constraint programming,
analogous to the MIP flow formulation.
Well done, Andrea!
