Postgraduate Programmes at University College Cork

We offer the following internationally recognized 12-month MSc programmes, each of which consists of two semesters of taught graduate level courses followed by a major individual project/dissertation.  You can find information on each course including entry requirements, modules, hours of study, assessment etc.

In addition, students can select the Higher Diploma in Applied Computing Technology as a route into industry or as a stepping stone to apply for one of our MSc programmes.

Where can I find out more whilst still in China?

There are a number of education fairs available where you can meet representatives from University College Cork.

What are the entry requirements?

  • MSc Data Science and Analytics: 2H1
  • MSc Computing Science: 2H2
  • MSc Interactive Media: 2H2

UCC 2H1 minimum Bachelor grade required is equivalent to:

  • 80-89%

UCC 2H2 minimum Bachelor grade required is equivalent to:

  • 75-79%

How do I apply for taught postgraduate programmes?

Apply via Postgraduate Applications Centre (PAC)

Do I need a visa to register as a student in Ireland?

Visiting Students from China require a student visa. Visas can take up to 8 weeks to be approved if applying by post.  The lead time is shorter if you live near an Embassy or Consul. They are also required to register with Garda National Immigration Bureau in Cork. Further details here: Registering with immigration to stay in Ireland.

How will I know if I have received a place?

Once you have submitted all the relevant documentation, your file will be forwarded to the Department of Computer Science for review; a decision is usually made within two to three weeks. 

What are the fees and scholarships for Non-EU students (2017-18)?

Tuition Fee (2016-17): €18,000

Scholarships based on undergraduate grade awarded (2016-17):

  • €1,000 based on a (UCC 2H2) GPA of 2.7 /4.0
  • 10% based on a (UCC 2H1) GPA of 3.3 / 4.0
  • 20% based on a (UCC 1H) GPA of 3.7 / 4.0

Additional scholarships - Quercus Scholarships 2017-2018

This is the first time UCC will offer a consolidated postgraduate scholarship initiative across all four Colleges and the scholarships will build on the successful Quercus brand by offering academic scholarships for taught Masters’ programmes to exceptional EU and Non-EU applicants. Each scholarship will comprise a 50% reduction in fees. Further information on the scholarships is available at Quercus Application Form

Generally June 1st each year. 

Do I have to pay a deposit to secure my place?

  1. Accept you place on PAC.
  2. You will then receive an offer letter on PAC with your offer.
  3. A deposit of €2,000 is required to secure your place; you must pay it within 21 days of receiving your offer.

 

Once you have graduated, you are entitled to work in Ireland for one year 

As of 10th April 2007, legally resident non-EEA third level graduates have been allowed to remain in Ireland for the purpose of seeking employment and applying for a green card or work permit. This scheme allows students with a minimum of a Bachelor and Master degree the opportunity to work in Ireland for a year after graduation.  Information on working in Ireland

The report indicated that skills shortages include ICT software developers, cloud, databases/big data, testing, security, technical support, networking and infrastructure.
