International exchanges on assessment practices in first year education

UCC were delighted to welcome the 20 international delegates participating in the third consortium meeting of the Transforming Assessment Practices in Large Enrolment First Year Education (TAP) Erasmus+ project.
Coordinated by the CIRTL team, the meeting brought together delegates from Palestine, Spain, and Bratislava to consider innovative forms of assessment for large first year classes.
The TAP team were welcomed by Dr Marian McCarthy, Interim Vice-President for Teaching and Learning, and participated in numerous capacity building workshops with the CIRTL team from March 12th – 16th. The group were also treated to traditional Irish music and dance, in the run up to St. Patrick’s Day.
Having conducted a baseline study of current practices in first year education across HE institutions in Palestine, TAP aims to redesign and implement 10 large enrolment modules in professional degree programs across disciplines. TAP will draft and institutionalise formative assessment policies for large enrolment groups, and use a range of technologies to facilitate timely feedback to students. TAP runs from October 2016 to October 2019.
