UCC’s Department of Food Business & Development collaborates with Valid Nutrition in research to combat malnutrition and support livelihoods in Malawi: Meeting on 20th November

14 Nov 2017

Valid Nutrition is an Irish-based NGO working to combat malnutrition in the developing world. VN has a strong focus on developing new affordable products which can be produced locally where possible, and on building evidence of what works. VN produces Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) in its production plant in Malawi which are distributed through UNICEF, WFP and the Ministry of Health to combat acute child under-nutrition.

For the past six years VN has been collaborating with UCC’s Department of Food Business & Development in research which has tracked the impact of local production for RUTF on the livelihoods of smallholder farm households. The findings of this work will be presented at a meeting of the Irish Forum for International Agricultural Development (IFIAD) Working Group on Nutrition and Agriculture, to be held on Monday 20th November 2017, 10.00 a.m. -  13.00 p.m., at the Gorta-Self Help Africa Offices, Kingsbridge House, 17-22 Parkgate Street, Dublin 8. The meeting will also hear presentations on the agriculture-nutrition work of the Self Help Arica Irish Aid Local Development Programme (IALDP) in Zambia.
