MSc Human Anatomy at the UCC Postgraduate Open Day in the Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn
Now in its third year, the MSc Human Anatomy has become a very popular MSc degree in UCC. Course director Dr Siobhain O'Mahony and course cordinator Dr Mutahira Lone met with prospective students at the recent UCC Postgraduate Open Day in the Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn on January 28th 2020.
Dr O'Mahony and Dr Lone find teaching on the Masters programme very rewarding. 'The students have such varied educational and cultural backgrounds and each post graduate student has a different academic interest and career path in mind when undertaking this course, this diversity broadens the learning experience for all'.
The MSc in Human Anatomy is a 12 months’ full-time programme which is uniquely designed to provide advanced training in clinically applied human anatomy. While different pedagogies are used as part of this programme, cadaveric dissection is a crucial component of the course situated at the state of art FLAME laboratory.
The programme is designed to reinforce and advance the anatomical knowledge and dissection skills of the participants. Core modules will cover different anatomical sciences such as gross anatomy, neuroanatomy and human embryology. Elective modules are designed to accommodate students with different interests. Students taking the Anatomy Pedagogy module will be taught to develop and deliver innovative anatomical teaching methods which include the use of new technologies.
The MSc degree in Human Anatomy is of interest to graduates of medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, science, engineering and other fields, interested in combining a postgraduate qualification in human anatomy with their skills base. The course has a large dissection component which provide participants with an exceptional opportunity to develop their dissection and anatomical knowledge in the FLAME laboratory, the department's newly constructed state of the art human anatomy research laboratory.
