The project entitled ‘Electrophysiological investigations on the molecular mechanisms underlying gut-to-brain signalling evoked by colonic microbiota’ will support Dr Maria Buckley, as a post-doctoral researcher for a period of two years. Dr Buckley will develop a novel technique of recording intact gastrointestinal vagal nerves while stimulating the colonic mucosa with various neurochemical-secreting probiotics. The aim is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying microbiota-gut-brain signalling
