Seminar by Dr. Stephen Keely

On Monday 10thFebruary. Dr. Stephen Keely delivered a seminar titled 'Targeting bile acids for treatment of intestinal diseases' to a large audience, consisting not only of members of the Department of Physiology, but also representatives from other biomedical departments within UCC.  

Dr. Keely’s scientific career started with a degree in pharmacology from UCD; followed by a decade of research at the University of California, San Diego; before he was recruited as Associate Director of the Department of Molecular Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin.  Dr. Keely’s seminar was on his key research theme, that of the regulation of intestinal physiology and ion transport by bile acids and the potential of such systems for the treatment of diarrheal diseases.  He delivered an extremely informative and entertaining seminar, which sparked a diverse range of questions from the audience.
