Inaugural Cystinosis Research Workshop - June 2014

The inaugural Cystinosis Research Workshop was launched in the Stock Exchange Buildings in Dublin on 20th June. 

The workshop comprised 12 research talks encompassing the cellular and molecular basis of the disease, existing drugs and pro-drug alternatives, and development of gene- and cell-based tools as potential therapeutic approaches from a panel of researchers from Ireland, Scotland, England, Belgium, Netherlands, France and New Zealand. The workshop also included a number of roundtable discussion with additional input from a number of clinicians who treat patients with cystinosis, as well as Graeme Love, CEO of HRB and Ciaran Duffy, National Contact Point for Health for FP7 and Horizon 2020. 

The event was co-organised by Dr. Patrick Harrison (University College Cork), Prof. Don Cairns (Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen), Mick Swift and Anne Marie O'Dowd (both Cystinosis Foundation Ireland), and was supported by a HRB Knowledge Enhancement and Development Scheme grant held by Dr. Harrison, and Cystinosis Foundation Ireland.
