Congratulations to Dr Sanathana Konugolu Venkata Sekar on election as Fellow of Optica
We are delighted to congratulate Dr Sanathana Konugolu Venkata Sekar — a member of the UCC School of Physics and a researcher at Tyndall National Institute — on his election as a Fellow of Optica, one of the most prestigious honours in the global optics and photonics community. This recognition highlights Dr Sekar’s outstanding contributions to equitable biophotonics, inclusive optical health-monitoring, global photonics standardisation, and leadership within the photonics research landscape.
“We are proud of Sanathana’s election as an Optica Fellow. His pioneering work reflects the highest standards of research excellence and impact, and his achievements strengthen both our School and our collaboration with Tyndall. This honour is richly deserved.”
— Prof. Paul Callanan, Head of School, UCC School of Physics
Dr Sekar’s inclusion in the 2026 Optica Fellows Class underscores the international impact of the photonics research community in Cork. We warmly congratulate him on this exceptional achievement.
