4th Year Poster Presentation Showcases Student Excellence at The HUB, UCC
The School hosted its first-ever 4th Year Poster Presentation on 20 November in The HUB at UCC, marking an exciting new addition to the final-year student experience. The inaugural event brought together students, academic staff, and postgraduate researchers for an engaging afternoon of scientific discussion and celebration. The posters showcased a wide range of research topics, highlighting the creativity, hard work, and innovation of the 4th year cohort.
This new initiative was sponsored by a bequest from the late Dr. J. J. Lennon, whose commitment to education and research continues to support student development within the School. We were honoured to welcome Dr. Lennon’s daughter, Dr. Sarah Davis, who attended the event and kindly shared a few words during the award ceremony, reflecting on her father’s legacy and his passion for fostering academic excellence.
Throughout the session, postgraduates and staff voted for their favourite posters, adding an interactive and community-driven element to the event. Meanwhile, academic staff also formally assessed the posters, contributing to each student’s overall final grade as part of their 4th year coursework.
A major highlight of the day was the announcement of the Best Poster Award, which was presented to Michael Moynihan. His work stood out for its clarity, scientific depth, and strong visual communication. The award reflects both the high quality of his submission and the impressive standard demonstrated by all participating students.

The School extends warm congratulations to Michael and to every student who presented. As the first event of its kind, the poster presentation was a resounding success, and it sets a strong foundation for what promises to become a valued annual tradition within the School.
