UCC Refugee Week 2024

ISS21 was proud to be associated with a number of events as part of UCC Refugee Week 2024 (Feb 19-24).

  • Monday 19th Feb., 12.00-1.15pm, Racism and the rise of the far right – historical and international perspectives (Dr Piaras Mac Éinrí and Dr Amin Sharifi Isaloo) Hosted by the ISS21 Migration and Integration Cluster. 
  • Wednesday 21st Feb., 11.00-12.00, Raising Awareness of Child Trafficking & Exploring Potential Research Collaborations (Mr J.P. O’Sullivan, Network and Communications Manager, MECPATHS) Hosted by the ISS21 Poverties, Social Justice, & Inequalities Cluster and the Inclusion Health Research Group (IHRG) 
  • Thursday 22nd Feb., 12.00-1.30pm, European Union Governance of Forced Migration: Impact on Health and Dignity (Dr. Apostolos Veizis, INTERSOS, Greece) Hosted by the ISS21 Migration and Integration Cluster and supported by University of Sanctuary) Details & bio at: Apostolos Veizis  
  • Thursday 22nd, 15.00-16.00, Depositions with Anton Floyd. A reading from the poetry collection, Depositions. Hosted by ISS21/Collective Social Futures.

 

In addition, two ISS21-affiliated projects had events: 

  • IMMERSE: Wed 21st, WGB 226 13:00-14:00: Supporting the integration and inclusion of refugee and migrant children in schools: evidence and practice
  • PRECNIGHTS, Wed 21st, WGB 226, 14.00-15.00: Translating ethnographic writing on migrants and outreach work with refugees for mixed audiences; and also an exhibition of 16 comic plates from PRECNIGHTS in the Hub during the week.
