UCC student films to premiere at Fastnet Film Festival - Wed 23 May @3pm

UCC students will feature in festival programme alongside Domhnall Gleeson, Nicola Coughlan and Barry Keoghan.
Films created by emerging filmmakers at University College Cork (UCC) will be showcased at the Fastnet Film Festival, a standout event in Ireland’s cultural calendar, held annually in the village of Schull, West Cork.
9 short films made by Film and Screen Media students, from UCC’s Film and Screen Media BA and Film and Screen MA, will be screened at the showcase which will take place in the Plaza Cinema, Schull on Wednesday, 23 May at 3pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
The films – including shorts, documentaries and music videos - will be introduced by director and writer Tom Hall, UCC/Arts Council Film Artist in Residence 2025.
This year’s Fastnet Film Festival brings a mix of leading international and Irish talent to West Cork, including actors Nicola Coughlan, Domhnall Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, filmmaker Rebecca Miller and US acting legend Bill Pullman, along with a full programme of panels, masterclasses, and screenings.
Dan O’Connell, Lecturer in Filmmaking and Co-Head of UCC’s Department of Film and Screen Media said: “Fastnet isn’t just a film festival - it’s a rare opportunity for our students to present their work alongside the best in the industry. To have your film screened in Schull, with leading industry professionals in the same room, is both inspiring and incredibly validating for young filmmakers starting out.”
